Direction vs Navigation

One thing I've learned from living with a pilot is that there's a lot more adjusting involved than actually simply pointing to the destination and hitting go.

Weather changes.
Air traffic changes.
Routes change.
Airport conditions change.

Pilots are constantly assessing, adjusting, and responding to what's happening around them.

That got me thinking about the difference between direction and navigation.

Direction is knowing where you want to go.
Navigation is responding to the reality of the journey.

Most of us spend a lot of time thinking about direction. We set goals. We make plans. We decide what matters.

But life rarely unfolds exactly as we imagined.

Circumstances change.
Opportunities appear.
Challenges emerge.
Priorities shift.

Perhaps the real skill isn't choosing a direction.

Perhaps it's learning how to navigate.

Take a few quiet minutes this week and ask yourself:

What destination am I trying to reach right now?

Then ask:

What adjustment might help me navigate the journey from where I am today?

It doesn't need to be a big change.

Sometimes the smallest course correction can make all the difference over time.
